Recently in our village, an old dilapidated stone house that had a way earlier life as a gite, was bought by a woman who had recently moved over from the UK with her partner. She like so many, wanted to fulfill her dream of owning and running her own BnB.

Meet Tricia. One fateful day, she and her partner just happened to cross paths with a couple who moved from the UK years ago now, and have probably 15 total renovations under their belts. They offered to help.

The purchased property was a short walk from their own home and why not? With Covid, it was all theirs to work on. Some of us sat still for that year and a half. Not Brent and Sheree; they did not stop moving mountains. They were on their knees; stripping, scouring, building new infrastructures and laying tile, scavenging, painting — basically project managing and doing all the work from structure to interior design. It took over a year to transform what was into a thing of beauty for others to totally enjoy.

Hats off to you — take a bow.

Chateau de Chambres is a cut-above by far, out-classing just about every other BnB setup I’ve seen in the area. Check out their site.

Add to that, our village is situated right on the Normandy/Brittany border, and you’ll quickly discover the region itself hosts countless day trips. Fifteen minutes from the iconic Mont St Michel, there is a wealth to explore: Dinan & Fougères … Cancale & Saint Malo … the D-Day Beaches … the Bayeux Tapestry —  all are within easy reach. And along the way? Chateau-hop or brocante hunt; it’s all here.

At the end of each day, Phil  is the man in the kitchen, providing Table d’Hôte for his guests. (Note to Self: People who stay longer benefit hugely.)

Imagine … petit dejeuner, out the door for your chosen day trip, then home for aperos on the terrace with a full late-day west-facing sun to quietly reflect and relax. Top it with home-cooked cuisine and a hot tub to usher you to sleep, and you’ll find yourselves in full exhale to take in the splendor of France.
